So new Core developer Jeremy Rubin is trying to quickly ram through a new BTC "improvement" proposal, introducing covenants via a CHECKTEMPLATEVERIFY (CTV) opcode. Rubin wants to use the uses the Speedy Trial mechanism that rammed Taproot home into BTC. Rubin's company (Judica) conveniently stands to benefit from covenants.

The biggest danger is covenants opening the door to government whitelists! Andreas Antonopolous has stepped up and spoken out on this:

I think BTC is mostly dead as a project but it's still worth it to speak out about this insidious proposal. Or maybe it'll just be another reason to use Bitcoin Cash :)
