Bitcoin vs. Independence: Should I Sell Bitcoin to Move In with My Partner?

Bitcoin vs. Independence: Should I Sell Bitcoin to Move In with My Partner?

Hello everyone,

I have a question I’d like to ask. Suppose you own some Bitcoin—let’s say more than 3 BTC—and you’re still living with your parents in your 30s. You’ve met someone special and are considering moving in together. Would you sell 0.5 Bitcoin to fully cover a year’s deposit on a house while waiting for Bitcoin to reach a higher price, say $100,000?

For those of us who’ve been holding Bitcoin since 2017, selling at $70,000 doesn’t seem reasonable because we could have sold during the last bull cycle when it reached $69,000. Even though we’re still in profit, we’re aiming for higher returns.

So, what would you do? Would you move in with your partner now and wait for Bitcoin to appreciate further before buying a house (hoping for Bitcoin to surpass $100,000)? Is it acceptable to sacrifice about 0.8 BTC to gain independence from your parents, or would you stay with them until Bitcoin reaches your target price?

Please keep in mind that in countries with high inflation, there are no loan options, and you have to pay the full amount in cash upfront. Also, regarding the deposit, they return the full amount after one year, but due to high inflation, the local currency will have lost half its purchasing power by then. That’s why this option exists where I live; landlords typically invest the deposits.

I’d like to hear opinions from Americans and people from other countries. I’m not from the U.S., and I know that in America, parents often expect their kids to move out after 18, but it’s different in other cultures. Even at 40, we’re still considered “babies” to our parents.

So, please share your thoughts on how people view the choice between investing in Bitcoin and life decisions.

Thank you.
