Bitcoin's appeal is that it is neutral money. Contrary to fiat currencies, it doesn't have a central authority (central bank). This is why BCH has rejected the IFP.
To some, decentralization might not seem the "most efficient" way.
Sure it isn't, storing transactions in someone's database is surely more efficient. But that's uninteresting, we already have a lot of that.
