Blocksize

Hey Guys I have two questions.

First, when and if Bitcoin will ever increase the Block size?

Because from my understanding if we won’t we will have to rely heavily on second layers which can be controlled by big companies.

Second question why is it bad that BCH has Checkpoints in the Chain?
