Default vs optional privacy

The topic of privacy has come up a few times lately. Usually I say default privacy is needed especially in trust based systems, like almost all our real world services are.

Why wouldn't that be a good approach for BitcoinCash too? Help me out with making a point for one or the other I need more arguments to think about and to form my opinion.
