Here's why bitcoin is my saving grace as a third-world dweller
I'm 22, fresh out of college. I've been following bitcoin since 2016. I remember it was $500 a coin when I first asked my mom to invest in it. She obviously didn't think taking financial advice from a teenager was a sound idea lol. Still, I don't blame her and don't regret not having money as a teenager to buy bitcoin.
I still think bitcoin is worth it at 120k and it'll be worth it when it hits 1m. I live in a third-world country and the inflation is terrible here. In the past 5 years, the dollar has doubled in value against my currency, and bitcoin has increased 10x in value against the dollar. That's 20x gains for me.
Ever since I first started earning I've been saving exclusively in bitcoin. I'm nowhere near owning a whole coin (my first job paid $50/month) but I'm still worth more than 90% people my age in my country, thanks to bitcoin.
Buying crypto is also illegal in my country so we have to buy bitcoin P2P. If the government detects you've been buying crypto they block your bank account and freeze your assets. I got my bank account blocked once and that made me realize even more just how valuable bitcoin is. It's the only way to truly own your money. If you keep your money in the bank you're at the mercy of the government and the bank to "let" you use it.
I intend to continue stacking sats as my sole savings strategy. I wonder if I'll ever own an entire coin with my measly salary that keeps going down against the dollar. I know it's just an arbitrary number but it's my longterm goal to be a whole-coiner. But even if I don't get there I'm glad to be a part of the bitcoin community.
