How does taproot enable smart contracts and DeFi on BTC?

I've seen this statement several times before in other subs: "taproot is huge because enables smart contract and DeFi on Bitcoin".

I've asked for explanations with no answers. The only related thing I've read about is that taproot will enable multisig wallets with hundreds or thousands of copayers and that is useful for some dApps.
