$83K is the number that matters. Here's why.

Bitcoin's move back above $81,000 looks more credible than a typical short-lived rebound, but confirmation is still missing.

The $415 million in short liquidations provided the initial acceleration; that part is mechanical, it tells you where the fuel came from, not where the market is going. What matters more is the $730.8 million in spot ETF inflows alongside it. That's real underlying demand showing up at the same time, which changes the read.

The number to watch is $82,000-$83,000. A sustained break above that range, with $80,000 then holding as support rather than resistance, opens the path toward $86,000-$88,000. Losing $77,000-$78,000 tells the opposite story: that short covering did most of the heavy lifting and genuine accumulation wasn't really there.

Here's what makes this setup genuinely unusual. Sentiment is bullish and pushing toward greed, which normally means crowded positioning and elevated liquidation risk. But funding rates are still relatively moderate. The extreme long exposure you'd typically see at these sentiment levels just isn't there yet. That disconnect between how people feel and how they're actually positioned is worth paying attention to.

For now, a credible breakout attempt, not yet a confirmed breakout. The signal isn't another price target. It's $83,000 reclaimed, $80,000 defended, ETF demand continuing and leverage staying under control.
