Is anyone else flabbergasted by this op_return debate?

I thought these guys wanted Bitcoin to be a low-level scripting language. Where do they think all the layer 2 magic is supposed to happen if they don't allow non-financial data on chain?

Watching all these Bitcoin Bros finally wake up to the reality that Core devs might be compromised is great, but didn't we already have this debate? Didn't we warn them? Didn't they already vote for exactly what the Core devs are trying to do almost a decade ago?
