Is the Lightning Network the same broken financial system we currently have?
I have read much debate about LN for a long time. Either people who are backing LN are crazy, or I’m not understanding how it works. The more I hear about it, the more I realize it’s a copy and paste of the current financial system. Let me explain.
I store value in physical gold (call that BTC) in a physical safe (call that a cold wallet). Then I put the amount of value I want to spend in a bank account (call that a hot wallet).
I can then use the bank (LN channel) network to facilitate my gold transfer. But because physical gold is impractical to transfer (high fees on BTC), I convert the gold (BTC) to fiat currency (LN-BTC).
While using the bank (LN channel) if I don’t like the facilitation of transfer due to fees or regulations, I can move to a different bank (LN channel) that will move the fiat (LN-BTC) for me.
Meanwhile I can at anytime pull fiat (LN-BTC) out of my bank (LN channel) and turn it into gold (BTC) then put it in my physical safe (cold wallet)
So is the goal of lightning network to just put the current broken financial system on blockchain? I don’t see the decentralization here. Is the aim of LN to specifically NOT allow peer to peer electronic cash?
