Let's move our BCH to our own wallets as much as possible.

I'm sure a lot of people here already hold their BCH in their own wallets so I don't want to preach to the choir but since there is a very real possibility that some exchanges might be creating BCH out of thin air (thereby creating artificial supply to keep demand in check and thus keeping the price suppressed) I feel we should be especially proactive in not keeping any coins on an exchange for any longer than we have to for trading purposes. In a sense we can to some extent achieve the same thing as the "wallstreetbets" crowd without having to encourage massive buying sprees. Simply by ensuring we don't keep our coins on exchanges we limit their ability to naked short BCH since without a reserve of actual BCH in their possession it can quickly cause a run on that exchange. Apart from everything i mentioned here It's a good idea to keep your own coin regardless.

Hardware wallets are great but if you don't have one it's fine, what I did and can recommend to others is to create a wallet using a reputable opensource wallet app, get the 12 word seed phrase. Memorise it and write it down on paper and keep it safe. (I plan on destroying the paper version once im certain I wont ever forget it), then delete that wallet from your phone/computer. keep the public key of the wallet on your phone/pc so you can transfer BCH to and check the balance at any time.

For spending purposes keep a separate wallet on your phone/pc, you don't need to back this one up but don't put more BCH in it than how much cash you would want to carry around in your physical (fiat) wallet.

This method is not ideal. If your house burns down the paper wallet burns with it. Someone could find the paper wallet and steal your coins, etc. etc. BUT it is still a hell of a lot safer than keeping your coins on an exchange, the exchange is 1000 times more likely to run off with your BCH than the od's of your house burning down. So yea, when you get the chance get yourself a nice hardware wallet, for now just get your coins of the exchanges. you will do yourself a favour (since you'l be a lot safer) and you will do us all a favour (since you'l be limiting dodgy exchanges ability to pull all sorts of shenanigans)

EDIT: A couple of posters made sound arguments as to why it's not a good idea to rely solely on your memory to store seed words. I will take that advice and not destroy my physical copy (though I still recommend you keep it memorised in addition to storing it physically.)
