Question about the irreversible transactions in Bitcoin network.

Crypto newbie here. I just finished reading the Bitcoin whitepaper and it mentioned one of the advantages of using Bitcoin is the transactions are irreversible and can only be refunded by the receiving party. I don't understand, Why is this a good thing?
