Ripple CEO says Chinese government could take over BTC protocol
Ripple CEO Chris Larsen did an op-ed on the Hill last year:

The Chinese government is also subsidizing the vast amounts of energy needed to fuel cryptocurrency “miners” in the country. Mining is one way to verify blockchain transactions where individuals or companies solve complex mathematical problems for crypto in return. At least 65 percent of cryptocurrency mining is concentrated in China, which means the Chinese government has the majority needed to wield control over those protocols and can effectively block or reverse transactions.
Of course he's correctly pointing out that BTC is anything but "decentralized", it's vulnerable to the whims of the Chinese government. For now, they seem content with keeping BTC running , but this could change anytime. There's no irony lost that it's the Ripple CEO making such statements, since the XRP supply is pre-mined and centrally controlled by the Ripple corporation.
