Startup wants to mine Bitcoin in space with thousands of satellites

I came across something pretty unusual today. A startup called Starcloud is apparently planning to put ASIC miners on satellites and mine Bitcoin in orbit.

The idea is that satellites get near-constant solar power, natural cooling, and don’t rely on any terrestrial power grid. Their FCC filing reportedly mentions a long-term plan for up to 88,000 satellites.

They already launched a small test satellite in late 2025 that carried an Nvidia H100 GPU, so at least some early hardware has made it to orbit.

Obviously this is still very experimental, but it raises an interesting question about where mining infrastructure could go in the future.

Do you think something like space-based mining could actually work at scale, or is this more of a moonshot idea for now?
