Tesla REWORDS Bitcoin support document to remove mention of BCH and BSV?! My take on why, bullish af
Earlier today, a post was made to this subreddit remarking on the specific mention of BCH and BSV in the Tesla Bitcoin support advice on their website.
The original text (emphasis mine) was:
Payment Support for Bitcoin Only
Bitcoin is the only digital asset that we accept as payment for our products at this time. You may not make purchases with us using any other digital asset, including Bitcoin fork products, such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV. Our Bitcoin digital wallet is not configured to detect or receive digital assets other than Bitcoin.
Hmmmmmm, not "at this time" eh? Interesting clarification to feel necessary. At the very least, Tesla is aware of and thinking through the possibility of customers having BCH (or BSV) and wanting to pay with it.
Well I checked on the Tesla docs on Bitcoin myself, less than 12 hours later, and what do you know the description has already been updated and changed! That section has gone entirely, and in its place is these new sections:
What cryptocurrency does Tesla accept?
Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency Tesla accepts.
and
What if I send a different cryptocurrency to the specified Bitcoin address?
We will not receive the transaction and it will likely result in a loss of funds for you.
Oh, so "at this time" has vanished! And now things have moved from "BCH and BSV" to "a different cryptocurrency", as if anyone who knew enough about transacting on chain with cryptocurrencies to own Ethereum would accidentally send it to a BTC address.
Furthermore, it is actually innaccurate to say Tesla will not receive BCH and BSV transactions, something I am sure they are aware of. Anyone who did "accidentally" send BCH or BSV to the BTC address, is money that Tesla will have access to via the same private keys as their BTC.
What they really mean is "if you send us BCH, don't expect us to send it back or give you a Tesla", but they had to be a bit misleading to downplay their own level of understanding of crypto or that investigating Bitcoin forks has been on their mind.
I have previously predicted that Bitcoin Cash will be the next crypto that Tesla accepts and I take this as VERY encouraging evidence that I will be right. There is no accident in this hastily conducted change, and it proves not only that Tesla are thinking about the Bitcoin forks specifically but also that they felt a need to cover that up once it got picked up either by Reddit or by their own internal review as someone realised "Wait, we shouldn't be mentioning BCH by name in our docs yet that's not supposed to be public info".
Just my speculation, everyone free to make up their own mind.
