There should be no issue with the "Bring your BCH back home" campaign

EDIT: the fact that this campaign is controversial seems to demonstrate to me the need for having it. This should not be controversial.

I'm seeing an alarming number of people crying "foul" and "scam" concerning the "Bring Your BCH Back Home" campaign and I'm not 100% sure why anyone would make such a claim.

The heart of this campaign is very simple: not your keys, not your coins. This is a message that every Bitcoiner should rally around.

Some people have a theory that there is naked shorting taking place on exchanges, and this campaign is intended to moon the price by triggering a short squeeze. Other people have a theory that this campaign is intended to crash the price (by some mechanism I don't fully understand.). Well, we can say for sure that at least half of them are wrong.

I want everyone to step back and take in the big picture.

What's the overall message here? It's very clear: don't just leave your coins sitting on (centralized) exchanges. There are millions of crypto noobs who have entered the scene in the last 12-18 months and lots of these people just buy some coins on exchange and leave them there.

The whole point of Bitcoin is the ability to control and move your own wealth without the need of a third party like an exchange. A lot of these newcomers have never heard "not your keys, not your coins." They've never lived through an exchange crash. They have never learned how to use a proper wallet. They don't know a CEX from a DEX or a private key from public, and we're helping them learn.

This campaign is intended to motivate everyone who has bought some BCH to get control of their coins. This is a message we should all agree on 100%.

I strongly disagree that encouraging people to get control of their coins will have a deleterious effect on the market, but even if it does, so be it. We did not create this technology to get rich quick, we created it in order to give people sovereignty over their money.

If you ever find yourself in the position of arguing against "not your keys, not your coins" then I urge you to engage in deep reflection about your priorities here.
