Why are BCH fees so low?

I recently started learning about BCH and it doesn't fit in my head how can it have such ridiculously low transaction fees. Why do people still prefer BTC? Is BCH (apart from its payment method vision) a good investment? What are the main cons of BCH? Thank you.
