Why Bitcoin should have MimbleWimble
Satoshi originally designed Bitcoin to be "anonymous".
Bitcoin's privacy issues started from the genesis block. Satoshi didn't think of privacy from the underlying protocol, but only focused on anonymity in transactions.
Has same privacy as cash.
Nobody can see what you receive or send.
Bitcoin is pseudonymous.
Transactions are linked forever.
Every Bitcoin address is visible to everybody forever, which is linked to every transaction.
It is trivial to link real-world identities to Bitcoin addresses.
Bitcoin's privacy issue's :
A Bitcoin address and transactions can be linked to real-world identities.
Addresses can be blacklisted.
Addresses can be used to build social graphs.
Transactions can be censored.
Bitcoin addresses, once linked to real-world identities, can be blacklisted by exchanges, e-commerce sites and other Bitcoin service providers.
MimbleWimble solves this by adding a privacy layer, where only non-valuable data will be on the blockchain. Only the sender and the receiver can see the cryptographic commitment. Therefore, only they can know how much money was really sent to each other. Furthermore, the transactions are "unlinkable". The sender and receiver are the only ones who know the amounts involved. The amounts are never publicly visible. This not only prevents transactions from being censored, but also from being linked to each other. If you send coins from A to B, and then from B to C, the change from B to C will not be traceable to A. The change is "blind" and "indistinct". The blockchain does not explicitly state what change happened. Only A and B know. C will never know. The blockchain does not say "A sent X bitcoins to B". It only says "A has sent Z bitcoins that have not been spent yet". The details of where, when and why are private. Even C cannot tell if A sends money to B or C. The details are "blind" and "indistinct". This is something that cannot be done with other cryptocurrencies. No other cryptocurrency provides true privacy and fungibility.
BTC does not provide absolute "privacy". It is superior to all other cryptos in almost all respects, except for "fungibility". It has the same problem as all other cryptos. If BTC is tainted, then all BTC will be tainted. Monero(XMR) does not have this problem. If I send you some dirty dollars, then only my dollars will be dirty. You could still use them as normal dollar bills. None of the other people will know that they are dirty. The same is not true for cryptocurrencies. If a coin is "tainted", then the entire coin is "tainted". If I believe that a currency is "dirty", then I cannot use it. This "blacklisting" problem does not exist with Mimblewimble. If I send you some "dirty" coins, then only my coins will be "dirty". If nobody else knows, then they will not know that my "dirty" coins are "dirty". They could still use my "clean" coins as "clean". Only you will know.
The "cleaning" is "indistinct" and "blind". This "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" is very powerful. It solves the "blacklisting" problem of other crypto-currencies. It makes it impossible to blacklist "good" and "bad" people. It allows people to transact without fear. It allows them to "hide" from powerful people and organizations. It protects their freedom. This "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" is also very useful. It makes it almost impossible to determine what the "true" value of a "coin" is. This "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" means that a "coin" is "not worth" as much as a clean one, even if it is "worth" more. Basically, a "coin" is "not worth" anything. Hence, the "value" of a "coin" is completely "indistinct". This "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" also has many other uses. It will solve many scaling and privacy problems in the future. The "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" is one of the main advantages of "MimbleWimble". The "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" makes "MimbleWimble" a "perfect", "pure" and "fair" monetary system.
The "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" is "money". The "indistinguishability" of "clean" and "dirty" is "freedom". It protects the "innocent" as well as the "guilty". It allows the "poor" to "trade" with the "rich". It lets the "weak" to "fight" against the "strong". It prevents the "government" from "taxing" the "people". It prohibits the "banks" from "taking away" your money. It forces the "corporations" to "give" you the "profits" that they make. It stops the "trader" from "cheating" the "customer". It ensures that the "worst" "offender" does not "harm" the "best" "offender". It guarantees that "all" are "treated equally".
